The STAR Method
STAR is a structure for behavioral interview answers: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
Situation
Set the scene in 1–2 sentences. Where were you, what was the context?
Task
What was your specific responsibility or challenge? Keep it to 1 sentence.
Action
What did you do? Use "I" not "we." Be specific about decisions, tools, and trade-offs.
Result
What was the measurable outcome? Numbers are ideal but not always available — describe the change.
Example
S: In my last role, our release process took 3 hours and often failed.
T: I was asked to reduce release time without increasing risk.
A: I broke the release into smaller automated steps, ran them in parallel, and added rollback checks.
R: Release time dropped to 20 minutes, and failures dropped by 70% over 6 months.
